New Zealand in a nutshell!

After seven months in a country you can't help but find certain things that especially catch your interest. From being just weird in the beginning, they now feel pretty normal to us and part of our everyday life. At the end of our travels we therefore feel we have almost reached the highly dignified position of being a local. Almost.

We are definitely gonna miss this about New Zealand:
~all of our kiwi families
~kumera (sweet potato - it's delicious!)
~milo
~the animals we've met: horses, goats, sheep, cows, dogs, cats, alpackas, lamas, peacocks, hens, turkeys, deer, guinea pigs.. and the fish!
~Nisse FMU 717
~amazing scenery
~short and jandals on a rainy day
~15 km/h curves and the chance of going over the edge..
~having dinner while floating in a hot pool
~the expression on B's face when she smells the swedish cinnamon buns
~practical jokes between neighbours-especially those including a pair of swedish helpers
~hokey pokey
~being joined by dolphins when you go out with the boat
~weet bix

We don't mind leaving this behind:
~marmite

New and most useful phrases we have learnt:
~Isn't this exciting?! (Andrew)
~Really? Really? Is that so? Really? (Boo)
~Now look. (Followed by a very wise advise) (Liz B)
~Hello love. How's it going love? Everything okay love? (Leaving the room not at all expecting an answer) (Russell)
~Look at that! (Andrew)
~G'day mate! How are ya? (Stan)
~Hej. Hejda! (Russell)
~POTATIS! PO-TA-TIS! (Bridgitte)
~Andrew. Andrew. Andrew! NO. (Liz B)
~Well. (sigh) (Follow by a very detailed historic story) (Murray)

You didn't know this about New Zealand:
~Icecream is the snack you chose when going to the movies.
~Walking barefeet in the city is totally normal. Even on a rainy day.
~Driving a white truck with a sheep dog on the back means you're a local.
~You don't say you just ate a kiwi. It will make you sound like a cannibal and NOT a fruit lover.

Basically, we have had an awesome time in this "Beautiful!" (Andrew) country and itself and its inhabitants will stay with us for a very long time. In fact, they may never leave. We are gonna miss you all!

Go New Zealand!

  3. yeah I can read your Blog for a change and it makes me sad and happy at the same time thinking of that awesome country and it's laid back inhabitants.
I had the first barefeet experience in my hometown and people looked at me as if I'm mad. Probably partly because it was just 6°C.

All the best to the two of you, hope I see you again
